Where AWS Costs Quietly Add Up

Most cloud overspend doesn't come from one big mistake. It accumulates from idle resources, oversized instances, and forgotten environments. Here's how we look for the slow leaks before they become a surprise bill.

It’s rarely one big thing

When a cloud bill climbs, people look for a single culprit. In our experience, the cause is usually dozens of small, quiet choices: an instance left a size too large, a dev environment that never gets torn down, a snapshot strategy no one revisited.

Look for the slow leaks

We start by asking simple questions. What is running right now that nobody is using? What was provisioned for a peak that never came back? What did we size optimistically six months ago and forget to revisit? The answers are rarely flattering, and they’re always useful.

Make it sustainable

Cutting cost once is easy. Keeping it lean is the actual work. We try to put lightweight guardrails in place so the next person doesn’t have to start from scratch. Good FinOps is mostly habits and visibility, not heroics.
